MERIDEN, Conn. - WTNH and other news stations are reporting that one group of Connecticut firefighters were faced with a unique "close call" and they weren't even at a fire scene.
Firefighters at Meriden's Engine 4 firehouse heard popping sounds Saturday night at approximately 10:30 p.m. Three firefighters on duty at the time were able to move the equipment out of the station without being injured.
WTNH reports that firefighters assigned to the Sherman Avenue station will work out of the Pratt Street station while repairs are made. Officials believe it will take three months before all repairs are completed.
Meriden Fire Chief James Trainor says that response times to the Sherman Avenue neighborhood will likely increase, but he is confident that the department will be able to keep the citizens safe.
