What does your officer do?

What do you believe to be the role for the company officer in daily training?

Should the company officer always be the instructor for every drill?

What type of drill schedule does your department use?

I believe the company officer should provide the schedule of trainings so that he can make sure sufficient training is done for all aspects of the job. Especially a rescue company. The company officer doesn’t always have to instruct because he may not always have the most knowledge on the subject. Our department relies on the company officers to put together trainings at their discretion.

1) The company officer in my eyes is the heartbeat of training for his company and the department. Daily training can consist of simply as talking about a known incident whether in his department or another agency and how we could mitigate that particular incident.

2) No the company officer should not always be the instructor. Being a fire instructor myself you always want to pass the torch to someone else, to help build that cohesion between the company and department.

3) My department doesn't utilize drills. We sit around and wait to go a call and come back and talk about what we did Wrong or Right. I was always taught "To train today so that we don't get it wrong on the fire scene / call". I have lots a great training ideas that would help my department, but because I'm not well like for my knowledge and skin color, I don't get the opportunity to help move my department forward.
