STARKVILLE, Miss. - Authorities say a woman known her volunteer work with the American Red Cross and other organizations in disaster response and emergency preparedness training has died in a mobile home fire.
Firefighters said 51-year-old Donna L. Barmore died early Thursday in the fire in Oktibbeha County. Investigators believe she was asleep when the fire started.
Patty Tucker, executive director of the Northeast Mississippi Red Cross chapter, told the Starkville Daily News that Barmore was a "shining light" in the community and will be missed.
Barmore is survived by a son, Neil, and a daughter, Kim, and her grandchildren.
