BALTIMORE - Baltimore fire officials say a child is dead after a fire in a row house.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 2500 block of West Lanvale Street around 2:45 a.m. Sunday where they found the house engulfed in flames.

As rescue crews searched the house, they found the body of a child in a second floor bedroom. Fire officials say it appears the child died of smoke inhalation and burns, but the final cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner. No other injuries were reported.

A preliminary investigation shows there was no signs of a working smoke alarm in the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
