CHICAGO - The head of Chicago's fire department has announced he's retiring amid an investigation into whether a sexual harassment complaint against him was mishandled.
According to Mayor Richard Daley's spokeswoman Jacquelyn Heard, Commissioner John Brooks told the fire department's pension board Friday that he's retiring.
Other Chicago Fire Department executives say they haven't been notified of Brooks' retirement.
Brooks was accused of propositioning a female fire department employee and trying to have her laid off when she refused his advances. He's denied the allegations.
Anthony Boswell, the chief of the office of compliance who resigned in March, was accused of standing in the way of an investigation into the woman's claims.
