THE Country Fire Authority is frustrated at hoax calls in the Bendigo region, which are costing the organisation and the community time and money.

CFA volunteers have responded to several hoax fire calls across the region in the past month.

Region Two operations manager Mark Gilmore said hoax calls in the Bendigo area were frustrating, and were always a problem.

Mr Gilmore said the CFA’s time was wasted by the hoax callouts, which came on top of responding to false alarms.

“There were three in one day that I can recall,’’ he said.

CFA personnel had to manage a risk every time they travelled through traffic to an incident, he said.

The number of hoax calls over the whole State, for a year, would be huge. (As is probably the case all over?) The penalties are there, when these people get caught hit 'em hard and put it in the media. Might deter some of the oxygen thieves. Ways of tracing these people do exist, they need to be used.
I agree Tony they would be huge numbers, butI think (and I might be mistaken) but unless it's impacting on Police and Ambulance, then I don't think chasing it by the authorities would be a priority. Hope that's not the case, but....
We did have one hoaxer that was causing a lot of trouble. There must have been enough fuss made, the Police did follow it, and caught the idiot. I don't know if he was sent for a holiday, but nothing now for more than a year - he always sent us to the same address...

Sent for a holiday? Yes, max penalty of five years inside can be imposed. But I think you may be right about us being the poor neighbours.
I hope like hell they find out whos doing it and they prosecute to the fullest degree of the law.
We can but hope John, but we often doubt...

Not that I'm laying any blame for poor action on the Police, I think it more likely to be lack of pressure by the fire services here. But I could be wrong.
Aerials? Only career stations get them.

I don't want anyone involved in making our life hard to be allowed anywhere near our gear. Not as bad as when we have people saying that arsonists should "be made to become firefighters" as has been said by some idiots... But I still don't want any of the oxygen thieves on station.
