SEATTLE — The Seattle Fire Department says one person is trapped after a car crashed through sheetrock in a hospital parking garage and plunged 10 feet down an elevator shaft.

Fire Lt. Sue Stangl said rescuers were working to free the driver, who does not appear to have been injured. The crash happened Monday afternoon on the third floor of a parking garage at Virginia Mason Hospital.

Stangl said she does not know what caused the crash.
