California Officials Plan To "Burn Down" Homemade Bomb Factory

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - Authorities say a San Diego County house where a man was operating a virtual bomb factory will be burned down.

Sheriff Bill Gore told residents at a town hall meeting Tuesday night that the Escondido-area home of 54-year-old George Djura Jakubec is so full of dangerous materials it cannot be made safe, and authorities will destroy it with fire on Dec. 8 or after, depending on the weather.

Gore says protective barriers will have to be built first, much of the surrounding neighborhood will be evacuated and Interstate 15 will be shut down during the operation.

The county declared a public emergency Tuesday to make the destruction possible.

Jakubec is in jail after pleading not guilty last week to illegally making and possessing explosives.

Regarding the kid who said that officials "have nothing to worry about..." Tell that to the family of the bomb squad technician who otherwise would have to go inside that house!
