Hoping to find some input both good and bad from Departments with CAFS pumpers.  As a rural department we don't run a large number of fires but the CAFS system looks very impressive.  We have two engine companies, if we would get a new pumper with CAFS how would our old pumper without CAFS work together with the new CAFS pumper on large fire scenes?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We don't get the reach with a CAF stream that we get with conventional foam or water. The knockdown and blanketing capability is nice for quick cooling and smothering. The main thing is: Don't allow yourself to substitute the use of CAF for thorough overhaul. There have been "rekindles" following the use of foam without good overhaul. Your older engine would compliment a CAFS engine very well because each has its own strong points. I would use the CAFS pumper as the first out and augment it with the older engine's water and manpower. CAFS is also of great value on vehicle fires and wildfires.
