A Buffalo woman will be spending this Father's Day mourning the loss of her dad, who she tried to save from a late-night fire.

Flames and noises from a deadly house fire startled neighbors on Wyoming Avenue in Buffalo, Tuesday night.

"It was pretty bad, the house was melting pretty bad. It looked like a marshmallow," said a neighbor.

Iman and Jabril Rashed say they were watching the NBA Finals when they heard what sounded like an explosion.

"It was a big fire ball coming out of the side of the house on Fernhill. I ran down the street and I saw a big family of people crying saying their grandfather was left in there," said Iman.

Fire officials tell News 4 an elderly man was unable to make it out of this burning home.

He was there with his daughter.

Commissioner Garnell Whitfield says, she tried to save her dad before escaping through a window.

"The house was fully involved and she could only get herself out of the house," said Whitfield.

Investigators say, the wheelchair bound victim was found in a bedroom in the back of the house with his oxygen tank close by.

The fire spread to a neighboring home, where everyone there made it out safely.

At this hour, fire investigators aren't saying what may have caused the blaze.

Whitfield said, "Damage is extensive throughout the house. It's probably going to qualify for an emergency demolition as soon as we finish our investigation."

Neighbor Denise Austin said, "It's a sad situation and they're going to need a lot of help, the family is and the people who lived next door."

Denise Austin is one of several people we spoke to who knew the victim.

Denise said, "You got to hope for the best and expect the worst in any situation. Only thing we can do now is pray."

News 4 asked Jabril, "Did you know that guy that lived there?"

He answered, "Yeah we know the guy. We're familiar with him. He always works. He shovels the snow cuts grass for people, fixes up cars, yeah he's a close family friend."
