BUFFALO, N.Y. - Flames and broken hydrants hindered firefighters overnight.

Buffalo firefighters rushed to Sears Street at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, as flames engulfed a vacant house.

Crews believe the fire started in the attic.

The blaze quickly spread to a neighboring house, which is also vacant.

The fire hydrants in the area are pretty old, some are even broken, which made for a tough time for crews as they tried to knock down the flames.

"We always have a little issue around here with these water mains. But, we have a plan with the water department that we can request to pump up the volume a little bit," said Division Chief Don McFeely, Buffalo Fire Department.

Both houses are a total loss and will be demolished.

No injuries were reported.

Meantime, fire investigators have been called to the scene to figure out what sparked the flames.
