Breaking in Fire Boots - Advice
I am starting an exterior firefighter class soon and my Chief (whom is also my boyfriend) and I have been getting together turn out gear for me to use. I'm very low on the totem poll as far as new gear goes so I've been going through gear the FD already has trying to find something that fits. In a volunteer squad of all male firefighters, most of them a good deal bigger length and width-wise from me, that has not been easy. Luckily for me, I happened upon some turnout gear that everyone had forgotten about that a female FF about my size use to use, so I'm good on turn out gear but the boots are another story.
Chief thought there was a pair of smaller boots in the storage room. We grabbed those last night.Typically I wear a 7 1/2 women's shoe. These are brand spanking new, still have the tags on, Black Diamond brand, 7 Wide, leather fire boot. I tried them on and think they're a little big, I feel very clunky in them, but after holding it heel to heel with my sneaker Chief said it's probably the best fit I'm going to get. He said something about in the past having to get boots wet and wearing them around so that his boots fit better.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's these, if it helps anyone:

not a good idea with any leather boots for structural use to just get them wet because its not going to do much. how much bigger are they then your actual shoe size? i usually wear a 9.5 but wear a 10 in structural boots to give room for extra socks and what not if they are to much bigger you need to get boots that are closer to your size or stand the chance of them comming off or causing an injury

My foot slides in them a little bit, similar to how it would in an Ugg type boot. I typically wear a 7 1/2 in women's. These are a 7 W, in I assume is men's. They're not that much bigger than my running shoe, so Chief said I probably won't get a much better fit. I have been wearing them around the house trying to get use to them and break them in.

If they don't slide much and have around the same fit as your running shoe then that would be fine as far as break in period or how best to do that leather boots in my experience will start to break in after regular use just remember if you get any hazardous materials on them or the start to show white spots from salt on the outside of the boot (ie road salt in the winter) it's time to get a New pair
