DOVER, N.H. - Less than two years after a new fire station opened in Dover, N.H., the city is considering closing it because of budget problems.

The North End Station is the third fire station in Dover. The other two are closer to downtown and schools.

The city faces a more than $800,000 budget shortfall this year. The City Council has already approved a plan that drops firefighter staffing from 12 to 11, and there's a proposal to lower the number to nine for fiscal year 2011.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports Fire Chief Perry Plummer stressed to the City Council he believes the city needs a full shift of 12 firefighters and three stations to comfortably cover the city.

WTF??? why build it just to shut it down? Makes more sense to me to simply have not built it in the first place.
