Blood Pressure/Vitals
Hello All,
First post here. I am curious of what your departments do for assessing blood pressure? We are a volunteer department that run medicals without transport. In the past, we have used the "at home" blood pressure monitors and we do manual BP as a backup. We go through these $30 BPM every few months. Curious if any of you have advice for brands or models that we should try, or if everyone sticks to doing manual BP's.

I prefer the sphygmo-manometer (manual cuff).
I have found many of the digital cuffs (both arm and wrist) to be of poor accuracy (always reading too high) and batteries failing with heat.
proper training in the use of a manual cuff is a must and the training should be supervised by a doctor!
hearing is so much more sensitive than the microphones used in the digitals.

also be aware when taking vitals that a person presenting a bigemini pattern will display a much lower pulse rate.
while the ekg will record the actual heartbeat it will not be detected by the pulse alone, and this will also alarm on the ekg units.
if you notice this strange pattern make the hospital aware asap.
