I work as a Fire Marshal and cover a lot of ground doing my day to day work.  I have about 20+ buildings that I check on a monthly/random basis (Life Safety Code, Monthly Extinguisher checks, Drills, etc).  I typically carry: Notebook, Radio, flashlight, Cell Phone, a portable scanner for extinguishers (basically like what they use at a grocery store for stocking), building keys and car keys.  I also have an 800mhz radio but I normally keep it at my desk or in the vehicle and at times will have tools, like a screwdriver or a wrench.  Pretty much all of the areas within the buildings are generally locked so I'm constantly unlocking doors since the facility is a state mental hospital.  As you can tell constantly grabbing my keys and then putting the scanner and other items in my pockets is not ideal. A backpack seems too bulky and a duty belt seems like it just gets in the way since I spend a lot of time getting in and out of a vehicle (an F-150). 

I thought about something like a carpenter pouch?

I've been having a tough time finding something works for inspection work but can also be worn or at least removed easily if there is an emergency.  On top of inspection work, I respond to any fire alarms and other emergencies (patient issues/patient awol situations) on grounds.

Just wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions?
