I have three favorite days. Fri. Usually smoked salmon with stir fry and fried rice to die for. Sat. Mexican day, you pick it we'll cook it. Sun. It's tradition here to usually have a Pot for supper. A pot by the way is spaghetti sauce, but it's made from scratch. The meatballs are also from scratch. Come to think of it pretty much everything we eat is made from scratch. We love cooking here!
I would have to the best firehouse meal is one that is not interrupted by the tones going off. Having your brother ,sisters and any other family near you. It is a time of fellowship . It doesn't have to be the best meal that you have had , as long as you get something to eat before the next call. Remember to share if you have it since there are alot of people out there without something . AND please when you say a prayer before you eat please include friends and family that are serving in the armed forces. Oh yeah the best meal is BBQ . cant beat it . Hope everyone has a great day.
we do not cook at our house. We only meet 1 time a month for about 2 hours. We usually are busy starting motors and checking gear. No time to think about eating LOL
We dont usually cook at our station but we started this past summer on friday nights cooking what ever was brought to the station that night. anyone can drive up an well offer them a plate. We have also started to have someone stay at the station on friday and saturday night . We have two fold-away beds . you bring any bedding that you want. Breakfast is taken care of by a local resturant. we do this so that response times are better .
I would have to say the best FIRE House Meal is the Ordered Pizzas lol when we have been working hard and just want to order out ya know LOL... Or when everyone brings something during the summer time like chips and sandwiches and soda and just plain junk food thats good too.
living on the pacific coast, certain seasons come and go as far as what the guys do on their days off and bring back to the station... can you say surf and turf? these would be the good times when fresh halibut, and other fresh catches of the day are brought to the station when it's their turn to cook.
there was a special occasion some years back where I ended up buying some lobster (I don't dive and it was on sale...) for my crew. I am a giver... Some problems did occur at the grocery store. After selecting the three bugs for steaming, I had a lady come up to me and call me a lobster murderer... how do you respond to that one? I told her that it was not my fault that the lobsters were "drawn" to butter... : ) bz
My dept hosts a pancake breakfast on the third sundays 12 months a year..speaking of which its tomorrow...i know what u mean about feeling a bit sick when u see pancakes. For the last about 6 months we've also been doin blueberry pancakes, french toast, and biscuits and gravy and we have eggs, bacon and sausage. I have such a hard time eating scrambled eggs now cuz i see them sooo much.
we have been having a Chili cookoff for the last three years. It has been awesome with teams from all over. We cook dinner every night on duty and cook a big breakfast on weekends also if we are working. We have 7 person shift with minimum of 6 so it works out well. We usually see what is on sale aty the grocery store across the street. We did Lobsters , Steamers corn on the cob and Steak tips last shift on. That is kindof pricy though, we try and keep the cost down if possible. in the summer we grill steak or Chicken and doctor it up with Vegatbles.
It works out pretty good.
