BALTIMORE - Firefighters are extinguishing an intense blaze that has torn through two buildings in Baltimore's cultural district, causing heavy damage to restaurants and offices.
Fire spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright says the fire broke out in 800 block of Charles Street about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and escalated into a five-alarm blaze. Hours earlier, firefighters were called to another five-alarm fire in the city's adult-entertainment district.
Cartwright says firefighters arriving at the latest fire in the Mount Vernon neighborhood found a four-story brick building fully involved in flames. He says the fire spread to another building.
Cartwright says more than 100 firefighters have been called to the scene, and two have suffered minor injuries.
