BALTIMORE - A Baltimore fire official says four people, including two toddlers, have escaped an early morning house fire.

Fire department spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright says firefighters were called to the blaze at a wood-frame home in the 800 block of Beaumont Avenue about 3:40 a.m. Monday by passers-by in a car. Cartwright says the passers-by helped a grandmother, her daughter and two toddlers to safety from the porch of the home.

He says the four occupants of the home suffered mild smoke inhalation and refused medical treatment at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
