TEMPE, Ariz. - Three Tempe firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling a blaze inside a brick home.
The fire department says crews were called to the fire late Saturday and began aggressively attacking the flames while patrol officers set up a perimeter around the area. Several people were evacuated from the back yard near the structure when a series of explosions were heard.
The firefighters inside were just approaching the hottest part of the fire at the front of the house when the blasts occurred. The front door was blown out into the street.
Officials say the firefighters continued attacking the flames despite being burned and contained the fire to the home.
The three injured firefighters were later transported to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.
