DETROIT - Amtrak has sued Detroit in federal court over a crash in which a train hit and destroyed a $600,000 fire truck that was parked on the tracks.
Amtrak says in the suit that the March 1 crash caused the passenger rail system at least $75,000 in damages.
It was filed Monday in Detroit federal court and says firefighters failed to exercise the ordinary care called for in the situation.
The fire department declined immediate comment Monday night.
At the time, then-Executive Fire Commissioner James Mack told The Detroit News he was "very upset" by the fire crew's actions.
The fire truck was at the scene to respond to an accident call. Two minor injuries were reported from the train-fire truck collision.
