DEFIANCE, Ohio - Firefighters in northern Ohio had to battle a blaze in their own firehouse when an ambulance caught fire.

The fire in Defiance forced the evacuation of the adjacent municipal court and police department for almost an hour Tuesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Pete Schlosser says the firefighters heard a loud pop and found the ambulance on fire in the garage area.

The ambulance was destroyed and one firefighter had to be treated due to exposure to smoke.

The chief says it took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.

EMS Strikes again!! :)
Anyone know how it started and what model ambulance it was and what engine was in it?
with little or no information on the ambulance type it's hard to know what happened....only a "pop" isn't much to go on....but great job to members
To me it looks like an International chassis. The truck was plugged into a battery maintainer when the fire started.
the paper said it started about 2:35 pm still don't know how it started but that they think it started in the engine compartment and lean towards an electrical problem . the squad was purchased in 1996
