ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Albuquerque Fire Department says a child has died after flames swept through an apartment Wednesday night in northeast.

A mother and four children were in the apartment at the time of the fire. The mother was able to get three children out of the apartment. The fire department says she attempted to enter the apartment to find the last child and was pushed back by smoke and flames.

Fire crews were met with flames shooting through the second story windows and main door of the eight apartment section within the complex.

Firefighters attempted to enter and conduct a search but were pushed back.

When crews were able to enter the apartment, they discovered a deceased 1-year-old.

Fire investigators are just beginning their investigation.
