ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Albuquerque Fire Department has a new policy: Drive drunk and get fired.

Eight firefighters have been arrested for driving under the influence since last year.

Previously, firefighters arrested for their first DWI could stay on the job.

Albuquerque Public Safety Director Darren White says it's clear that policy was a failure.

Fire Chief James Breen says it's time to take a stronger stance.

Now, an internal investigation will be done if a firefighter is arrested for DWI, and if there's enough evidence, the firefighter will be fired.

Right on Ralph, zero tolerance of a convicted emergency responder is the only way to go. Hell nobody knows better than us the tragic results of this behaviour.
Ok

I know Im going to upset some but here is my opinion, if you are arrested for DWI your fired. It is my understanding that most states have a similar law as mine(Ga) that to be arrested for DWI you either have failed a breath or blood test. If you havent failed (ie havent taken it ) you can be arrested for suspision of Dwi a different charge. If you are arrested for that I can see a Dept waiting for results. But I have no tolerence for anyone that drives under the influence of drugs or booze. How many people do we have to pry out of cars before we truly get it?
