(AP) FAIRBANKS, Alaska

An elderly Fairbanks woman was seriously injured in an apartment fire and flown to Seattle for treatment.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in a duplex on Ninth Avenue in downtown Fairbanks.

Assistant Fire Chief Ernie Misewicz (MISS'-keh-witz) says neighbors heard yelling and saw smoke coming from the woman's apartment.

They broke in and dragged the woman out as firefighters arrived.

Misewicz says the fire started in the living room.

The woman's name has not been released.
