PHOENIX - A house fire early Wednesday forced the evacuation of several people at a nearby Downtown Phoenix apartment complex.
All that separated the burning home from the remodeled apartment complex was a narrow alley and a freshly painted wall.
Because the old two-story house was structurally unstable, firefighters had to fight the blaze from outside.
The house was probably built in the 20's or 30's. Fire officials say it had servants' quarters and several fireplaces and appeared to have been quite a nice home at one point. It's not clear how long it had been vacant.
