EMS Junior Corp Training Ideas

Just became the Advisor of the Junior Corp in my Ambulance Corp. They haven't had any real guidance in the past. I am trying to think of any training I can do with them. I have already set up a Medic Assist class for them. They are really enthusiastic and want to learn. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check with the Boy Scouts of America. Their Explorer program is excellent and open to both males and females 14 - 21 years old. They offer guidence and possibly may have a program designed for your type situation.

I contacted the local Boy Scout troop in my area and they are going to get me information on the explorer program. Since I've taken over we have had an increase in junior members. (from 3 to 10) I have already had them all certified in cpr. (that was a fun class lol lol). Thanks again and be safe.

I think that hands-on sessions are the best. Do they know where all of the equipment is on the rig(s) and what it is used for? How about rig checks, do they help there or possibly do them as a drill?

In New York I believe people 16 years and older can become Certified First Responders so that might be another possibility if your state also has this program.

set up stations with things that the explorer's know and have an adviser at each station and let the explorer's walk each other through the stations and just have the adviser standing by just in case the explorer's can't get each other through it. we did that with the fire explorer's at my station and it worked great, b/c they all did team work to get through the stations.
