I will be attending fire academy in Florida, but I have been considering moving to California after certification. Does anyone have any information on how to transfer the certification, or even if that's necessary? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Most states have standards set forth by the NPQS (National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications aka the Pro Board) and if the states comply to the national standard they are elbible for "pro board" status. This allows you to take certifications across state lines and have them hold meaning. My state has missed the ball on some of the classes (all the haz mat ones) and it cost me a really good job. Go to www.theproboard.org/ and see if Florida meets the standards and allows for Pro Board certification. Good luck.
Try contacting the folks at the CA Office of the State Fire Marshal. The Chief of "State Fire Training" is Michael Richwine and he can be contacted @ (916) 445-8195.

You may also find the information at their website:

Hope this helps.

And for the future: google is your friend!
