Does it make sense have a firefighter who is training to be an interior firefighter, use the S.C.B.A. on car fires and gas odors with a qualified person to get use to working with the pack on? Our current S.C.B.A trainer says as long as they have had Firefighter 1 and have been training it is a good way to get the experience then on structures they can assist with clean up work too, just not the intial attack. I am wondering what others do to help assist with training on S.C.B.A's.

I don't disagree with buddying up with a more experienced person. The wearing of SCBA introduces whole raft of complications, feelings, experience, etc. (From limited visibility, limited air, balance, weight, body stress and so on)

Do the "easier" and less hazardous jobs before going interior....
Yeah, let them get used to it in "safer" conditions.
