ANDERSON, S.C. --

Fire investigators are trying to determine why the stove in an Anderson County home was rigged to trigger a natural gas explosion -- and who is responsible.

The home is on Dunlap Road near Highway 81 in the Hopewell Community.

Fire Chief Billy Gibson said that two real estate agents who went to look at the home called 911 to report smelling propane or natural gas inside the home.

Investigators went to the home and found a burned rag on the electric stove and gas filling the home.

Gibson said that he believed someone intentionally started gas flowing into the home, hoping that the burning rag would cause an explosion.

Gibson said that the house is for sale and the owners live in Atlanta.

With the housing industry the way it is right now, you may see more of this in the future.
I agree with Stephen. I am sure the firefighters noted whether the doors were locked and or whether there was any access into the home as they arrived on scene. If the house was locked up, than its a pretty good indication that a former tennant, and or the homeowner created this occurance. It is scary to see this kind of stuff happen, but look at Hurricane Katrina. People didn't have flood insurace, so they torched their houses to be able to collect on the fire end of their homeowners policy.
