If anyone is interested (and didn't know yet) we have a group for Urban Search and Rescue that really hasn't been tapped to its full potential. While the other group I am involved with (Cancel The Engine) is a little more tongue-in-cheek as well as sharing info, the Urban Search and Rescue group is more about sharing information and finding out what's going on in the industry.

If you are interested in US&R or are a member of a local, regional, state or federal asset, come join us at Urban Search and Rescue.

Helloooo, out there. Can anybody hear me. Is this thing on?
Yep, it's on Mick. Loud and clear.

I would join the US&R group but we don't have any urban areas nearby. Our S&R activities take us into the forested hills and valleys and are led by honest-to-goodness forest rangers.
Yeah, just trying to see who's out there. Appreciate the feedback though.
Well, one of things I would dicsuss in here would be the creation of regional US&R teams based on the NIMS Collapse Rescue Team typing, which is what most departments who are doing US&R are ACTUALLY doing and struggling with. What I will be proposing is that by creating regional assets, they can share in the cost as well as the wealth of having a resource close-by. Just part of a tiered program that we are advocating through SUSAR.

Feel free to come to the group. It's not an exclusive community.

Some additional Hurricane Sandy-pertinent necroposting...

A SUSAR team, SCTF-1 is being deployed to Maryland for Hurricane Sandy.  They have a swiftwater component and a HART component, althought the helos have not been deployed.  The HART guys are all SWR trained and at least three of them are SWR instructors.

Good luck and Godspeed, SCTF-1.

Other good progress - at least in SC - in the past four years is the establishment and strenghtening of the regional Type II team program, with five teams now up and running including ours.  (SCRRT-4, Hilton Head-Bluffton)
