We went to foam on our new pumper and it has cut our water demand by at least 80%...it takes some time to work things out...but in the long run you get a lot of knock-down for the buck....had a log house fire and with firefighting AND overhaul we only used 400 gallons...and that had one end fully involved...as most rural departments water is our critical element and with CAFS it has become a little more managable...But it does take some time and training effort to work things outy as I have said....Good luck..........Paul
We have a CAFS truck, a 2006 Ford with an 800 gallon Snuffer unit. It rolls on every call, it has become the mainstay of our department. We have no hydrants in our area at all. It has taken a lot of demand off our tanker, we had a fully involved garage fire that used 1000 gallons total. Most of that went through our pumper. We have an induction unit on our pumper as well.

We use foam for all our structure fires but only for overhaul and not the initial attack, we've found out that we get next to nothing for rekindles when we use foam.
Yves, the question really is what foam system do you mean? A couple of people have assumed you mean CAFS - is that what you meant? Or do you mean injection or induction of A or B Class foam?
