Oldest Fire Apparatus in service?
Hi all! Just trying to get a feel for what kind of equipment is still in service out there! We've got a 1956 Ward LaFrance that was purchased new by the Dept and is still in active service (although not commonly!). Believe it or not, it's a 750 GPM Pump and is more powerful than a lot of the newer stuff we've got! The newest in the fleet is a 2003 Marion 75' Aerial Ladder. We've got a couple older trucks that are being restored and are collectors, but nothing else that old on the active roster. Anyone else still have good old trucks?

From what I've read the Model A was first built Oct 20, 1927 and first sold Dec 2 of that year and designated a 1927 model. Of course that was years ago and history does get fuzzy with age.
BTW Ford made a 1903 Model A also that was more like a horseless carriage.

1936 Ahrens Fox. It's no longer used for firefighting duties, but it still runs and is used in parades. We had a 1971 Hahn that was in front line service until just 3 years ago, it was purchased by a department in South Carolina and is used as a fire prevention tool down there. That truck was a beast and could out perform most of the newer trucks in my area.

our's are a 1986 ford f-750 pumper that has been broke for atleast5 year's "we don't have the money to fix",a 1997 s&s tanker pumper750/2300 and a 2001 sterling 500/2400 tanker a 1986 ford brush truck/ ems truck with 208,500 miles and yes we have had it sence new. and last a 1981 chevy brush /tanker with 89000 miles

^^^we have a Foam Carrier 17 (although in reserve) it is a 1948 year, dont know who makes it though.

We have a 3 time restored 76 laFrance Engine 1000 gal tank 1200gpm pump(purchased new by my dept) We use this as a 2nd out truck. It's set up like a rescue engine. It backs up our engine on str. fires and the rescue on wrecks. We run it 1st out on vehicle fires. The old gals a workhorse. They just don't make them like they did back in the day.

We have a 1960 B-series Mack and a 1959 Chevy. The chevy was used for parades but the Mack was still a fully functioning pumper (was frontline up until 1991). Both flooded in Katrina, We've wrote off the chevy, but were tryin to do something about the carburetor for the Mack, the governor spring broke and there's nothin really we've came across that we can substitute in. Couple of people have told us use a 2 barrel holley and make an adapter plate for it.
Out next two oldest are a 76 and 79 F-700 used as tankers/tenders

Perry Volunteer Fire Department still has as a back-up brush truck, a 1949 homemade Chevrolet pumper with a front mount pump. It has 17000 miles on it. We are going to take it permanently out of service and just juse it for parades in the spring.

I think I got the oldest apparatus
It might not be on calleveryday but we still use it. When another foam tender breaks down/needs reapir the old ones come back to life and works.
Most people think its a fake and dont pull over becuase they dont expect us to b running something this old. So when ever it goes on any call, either a cheif and an apparatus or 2 other apparatus "esscort" it to the scene
