thank you on the wit, you know how it is wit us ex new yorkers "overdere"...ya hurt my feelins on the care package....now i gotta hit below the belt and send ya pictures from the firehouse during spring break.(the best part of florida firefightin)

It's a soap opera with firefighters which is better than one without them. Do most firefighters have that much drama in their life? God I hope not....but it is an exciting, well written, and well acted SHOW! Plus, it's the one program my wife and I both want to watch...I've got the box sets which made me appreciate how much Leary's heart is in this show and the foundation.

I liek the show, but not because it's about Firefighters.
It's about some disfunctional people and disfunctional families, one of which is the family at the fire station.
Dennis leary uses the Firefighting as a hook to get viewers to watch, and some will continue to watch because they like the show, others will hate it and not watch anymore. Overall, it is not a good example for the general public of what Firefighters are really like, nor is it a good example of what we do...on duty or off.
That is, of course, why I would love to see a show like Emergency remade as a modern TV Drama, but kept to the TV-12. Family Friendly, a good dramatic view into the real workings of a Fire Department, of Firefighters and their families.
Rescue Me is a good show, but not all that.

Well, let me put it this way.....I would rather have a root canal then to have to watch it again....I saw one episode(actual about 15 minutes of one episode) and that was plenty.....about as realistic as a cartoon....has the plot of a soap opera....and I doubt as to whether they know which end of the hose the water comes out.....any questions..? If you really think about it and look at some firefighters , The show is almost really close to the real thing. Then again it is FDNY so anything is possible

I think it is a discrace to the fire service. It is more of a soap opera than about the fire service.

How is it a disgrace to the fire service, Look at some of the other shows out there Emergency, Third Watch, Rescue 911, all the same. Emergency back in the day showed typically the same stuff, the life of Johnny and Roy without the sex and drugs. Third Watch was the same as Rescue me in the mind set of the lives of the NYPD, FDNY. Rescue 911 was about true events but again it was a soap opera .

If it does anything to Fire Departments it brings to light the true deals of members. The only thing that disgraces the fire service is the stupid acts that the current members do to disgrace the service, drinking, driving, bringing handguns to the station, going to calls while on drugs, members from other stations bad mouthing other stations( come on this is one big family, watch who you bad mouth cause that person might be the person backing you up at the next big one)

No, actually I think you have lost the focus here....the thread was "what do you think of the show"....and people are telling you what they "think" of it....if you like it....great.....But, I for one, think it isn't worth the time it takes to watch it....so does that make me wrong..?? Last I knew we could think whatever we want...even if King George (Bush) feels he is above the law of the land.....But let me digress, that's another whole setting for some discussion....LOL Stay safe...and always remember to keep the faith..........Paul
