Just asking of everyones opinion on how to approach and handle this manner. My fire department is located in the mountians of upstate NY in a mountian town for snowboarding and skiing. We also have several 3+ story hotels as well as the mountians massive lodge, and several rather over large homes on the side on the mountian all of which are under our coverage. My department has 1 single station 100% vol and we run 1 commerical pumper ,1 tanker, 1 mini-pumper/auto crash unit,1 6x6 polaris ranger, as well as an equipment van. Heres where the problem comes in our closest ladder/aerial unit is +30 minutes away and down a mountian as you can probally tell this severely reduces our effectiveness if any of those large buildings ever go up. Really what im wondering is how you would approach your town government or any other sources with this problem and how to solve it (aside from grants) thanks in advance guys help?

Scott....Not sure where you are from But I am from Heuvelton NY...about 10 miles from Ogdensburg....anyways....I had a rope rescue (high angle) class last week and the instructor who runs one of the county cars (Fire Coordinator) told us that the Village of Canton is looking to get rid of one of their aerials...I know they were looking for bids but none came in...you might contact them and see what the bottom line would be....the Village Fire budget is huge so you may get lucky and get it as a donation....never know till you check it out....May very well be your answer....I think it is a 1990 or thereabouts...looks like it is in goo shape...but then again I am no truckie.....LOL Good luck....Paul
hey thanks where is that in ny were in greene county about 3 hours above NY and about an hour south of albany
Well if you left Syracuse and took 81 north....go till it runs out....turn right and go another 50 miles.....LOL....its wayyyyy up north...any further and you would need a passport to get back.....LOL....Village is called Canton, NY...you should find it easily on a map...its the County Seat for St Lawrence County.....they have all the bells and whistles there....it would be a great walk through for you just to see some of their toys...er..I mean equipment....Paul....Matt McGregor might be a good person to contact....I think he is the past Chief.....Good Luck.....Paul
