Thunderstorms and Severe thunderstorms produce allot of dangers but in any thunderstorm lightning is produced. There are many different types of lightning to break it down somewhat you have the following:

Heat Lightning- This type of lightning is really not called heat lightning, its really flashes of dense faded strikes seen miles away from either a thunderstorm miles and millions of miles away and means no harm, If I was just seeing this type of lightning I would just soon go off to sleep. But keep in mind that heat lightning can be seen from an approaching thunderstorm coming your way thats only miles away in your state. Its also a pretty color to see this.

White Lightning- This lightning can be seen when lightning rolls across the sky during a thunderstorm over your area. This is usually like a big giant camera flash and then a crack of thunder is heard.

Cloud to Air Lightning, is lightning streaks seen going across the sky and were there is not enough positive charge on the ground. The lightning remains in the air.

Cloud to Ground Lightning, Is thunderstorms producing deadly lightning from the charged cloud to the ground and hits everything in its path such as telephone poles or such as near lakes or even water supplies.

Lightning is the Number one Underated Killer and can kill you instantly or paralyze you. Lightning bolts are hotter than the surface of the sun which is 10,000000 degrees Farenheit. Imagine sticking yourself in that type of hotness. So what do you do and how can you keep yourself safe, well the saying is when you hear thunder you are close enough to be struck lightning. So you should always keep your safe. Unplug all electricle appliances do not use any water at or neither should you take any baths or showers. If you are outside and you feel your hair stand on end crouch down with your knees bended and ankles up with your head between your legs and your head over your hands. If you can get to safety do so, count the distances between the lightning flash and the thunderstorm. Never ever use a telephone. If you have to use a cell phone its allot safer during emergencies. Lightning also causes fires as well. Don't put yourself in harms way.
