Safety glasses does anyone know if it's requeierd to wear them on the fire scene

Well we have gone back and fourth on this around the fire house about safty glasses requeirede on the fire scene. Personaly I do agree to a point we should wear them exp. ems, extercation or overhauling where thiers a change of getthing something in your eyes. but going inside for a alarm off or working on a fire ground it's pain in the ass to were them. We been told it is osha violation if we doin't where them I do understand in some buissness it can be of what their doing thier but not for us so much I don't think I have ever seen any other company where them before. I'm looking for some input if anyone eles requires it and if it is true about osha or any other agenices requirements to wearing them.

I think the requirement to wear safety glasses at a scene would depend on your particular Dept. SOP's/SOG's. I don't believe there is an OSHA requirement. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they come up with one soon. I think on the fireground your helmet visor would do just fine, while at an extrication you might want safety glasses or even goggles.

i do in house training and state training for tennesse.osha and nfpa and iffa use secondary eye protection as a standard.but we only make our personell use them during extrication and cutting trees out of road.its up to each dept sog and sop

You are required to carry them, not wear them unless youa re doing an activity that Requires them. At that point take them out of your pocket and put them on heh.

Your SCBA Mask is primary eye protection. Safety glasses would be required for all situation where you are not wearing your SCBA or a full-face respirator.

Firefighter safety is very important. Firefighters are on the front line of emergency intervention. Please wear safety glasses. Please use goggles when operating power tools or using hand tools. Please wear all your safety equipment, including seat belts, always.

I recently retired from a 34 year career in the Fire Service. During my entire career safety glasses, goggles, face shields, gloves, helmets, safety shoes and boots were always required.

I am now a full time Fire Science Faculty member of Red Rocks Community College in Denver. We insist on all safety equipment, especially eye protection always. Also, be aware of biological hazards when dealing with blood, and body fluids. Your eyes are precious and fragile. Capt. T

in my town it is requirement that all members wear saftey glass or goggles or there visior is down when doing any cutting or working around mostely mva's .

I WEAR MY PAIR TO MEDICAL AIDES, M.V.A'S, HAY STACK FIRES, & VEG. FIRES. I WILL NOT WEAR THEM ON ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES AN SCBA ( STRUCTURE FIRES, VEHICLE FIRES.) I HAVE THREE PAIR. 1 CLEAR, 1 AMBER, 1 DARK. THE AMBER I WEAR FROM A WORKING CODE TO A MVA, THE SAME WITH THE DARK EXCEPT AT NIGHT, THE CLEAR I WEAR FOR CHILD BIRTH OR MVA. DEPENDS ON WHICH ONE I GRAB.
