im thinking about getting an intercom system. a lot of our fires are up to 10 miles from station its hard to hear back seat guys as well as dispatch . do you have them. if so what cost are involved. i'm also looking for an outlet to get one from . someone may have a system even. let me know your thoughts
Providing hearing protection ensures good effective communications between the Captain and the other crew members. Additionally, the engineer can hook their headset up to a connection at the pump panel to enable hearing radio traffic and saving their ears... Here's the connection that is waterproof with the hinged cover.
Additionally, the push-to-talk button is provided for both the driver and Captain's front seats as well as one at the pump panel. We also installed an additional headset jack on the rear of the engine as well.
For my department, we have had a lot of good service using two different vendors for providing in cab hearing protection and communications. I think for the most part we use Sigtronics but we may also have some of the setcom equipment in our hazmat rig. This should give you a good start Chief. Let me know if I can provide any further information for your project(s).
Hey Mike,
That's the same type we use. It's so much nicer than yelling over the various vehicle sounds, not to mention averyone aboard the rig can hear the radio transmissions.
we use Sigtronics but don't get that style of mike set up. WE like the the other option of mike style, they've been great. Check on state law about drivers having a speaker in only one ear, and responding to calls.
i have had it spected in my last 3 fema grant aplications but thats been a wash . that a system ill never understand. how they pick who does and dont get a grant
