Although I prefer RED I think it all comes down to where you are located as a community, and what the higher ups want for the color of the apparatus to be. the county directly to our east has pretty much solid blue, to our north they have yellow, west is a combo of mostly red with black trim up top, south they are red as well. So I would say it is more of personal prefrence as to the color.
Lime green with a red and white contrasting reflective stripe works best for us here is Eastern Washington. It stands out the best when the visibility is poorest i.e: dusk, dawn and in rain/fog etc.
In the county where I live there are 8 main companies. One is strictly a rescue (amb) company and one is a Paramedic (chase vehicles) company. The rest of the companies are fire and ems. Each company has it's own unique color scheme. Co. 6 is yellow with white stripes, ours (Co. 7) is white with blue, Co. 3 is Red with white stripes and Co. 5 is white with red stripes, Co. 2 is white over red. It definitely makes knowing whos on scene easy.
I gotta go with red. All of my departments fire apparatus are red with a white reflective stripe and our rescue squads(ambulances) are white with a red reflective stripe. Even the department I rode with in CA, their trucks are red
Let's see. One company that I run with had red trucks when they started, then they changed to slimer green, and then they went to and are currently white. In Montgomery Co, PA, there are so many trucks with SOOO many colors. From slimer green to an off white to dark blue, you'll run into something that's not normal!
