A Tri-County fire fighter is in a Springfield,Mo hospital after he gets hit by a car on I-44 near the 142 mile marker east of Lebanon. Authorities say he was helping out the Hazelgreen Fire Department direct traffic when he was hit by a car. He was transported to St. John's in Springfield where he's alert and talking, but his injuries haven't been released.
Let us not for get how dangerous it is out there.

My he have a speedy recovery.And yes it is dangerous out on any highway.I never take my eyes off of or turn my back on traffic.

HEY KEN,IT IS A HARD JOB OUT THERE ON THE ROADS AND HIGHWAYS,I DO FIREPOLICE YOU HAVE TO STAY ON YOUR TOES,THATS WHY YOU HAVE FIREPOLICE AND SAFTY OFFICERS TRYING TO MAKE SCENES SAFE AS POSSIBLE. BE SAFE OUT THERE.

WHat precautions does your department take to prevent this sort of incident?
For example, if we use traffic cones, we would set them up on a 1:1 ratio. ie: for every 1km of speed, we would set them up per metre (100 km speed zone, means traffic cones are set up for a minimum of 100 metres)
