SAGINAW, Mich. -- Rescuers used special machinery to extricate a motorist from a car after it crashed. Then they used it to free a television set allegedly stolen by the driver.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the crash early Thursday. Saginaw County sheriff's Captain Randy Jerome says the car had come to rest on its top, pinning the driver inside.

Jerome tells The Saginaw News that after the man was freed, deputies learned he had just left a Meijer store where he was suspected of stealing a 32-inch flat-screen TV.

Deputies asked firefighters to use their equipment to free the television so they could have it for evidence. The motorist was taken to a Saginaw hospital.
