New to the Flame!
Hey everyone! Im new to this board and I like what I see. I know being the newbie am going to ask what everyone has probably answered time and time again. I will be graduating from a 4 year University in So. California in June, but I am testing for Seattle fire in January. It will be my first time testing. I have my study guide books that i am in the process of studying from, but I was wondering what else that I could do in order to pass the written exam. I know you all have taken this test in ur respected towns and cities, but what kinds of things did you do or things that you think worked the best in ur efforts of studying for the test. First off, aren't you testing in CA?
LAFD does a written test every month currently.

Get and stay in the habit of writing good grammar (i.e.; your/you're instead of ur).
You'll come across a lot better and there are English comprehension/spelling/grammar portions to a lot of these tests.
A lot of departments like to see volunteer work (not volunteer firefighting) as a way of giving to your community. SFD is especially big on this. Don't do it just to fill a resume.
If you can though, get on with a volunteer/POC department (this is in addition to your volunteer work). This will give you a taste of the fire service in general.
Get your EMT, EMS is a good 80% of runs out there. Seattle especially, it is their bread and butter with a world reknowned Medic One program.

Reread your notes and study the questions at the end of each chapter again. You might be surprised how much you have forgotten from the early chapters. These are the only things that I can add to what bam said. Good luck and try to relax.

Thank you guys! I grew up in the same small town in which I have grown up in and I live about 30 minutes north of LA. So it is more of a reason for me to just get out of California and try something new. I have been up to Seattle plenty of times and the weather does not bother me. Its nice to have some rain, compared to getting our yearly amount of rain out of one storm. Next semester I will be taking my EMT classes so I have that going for me as well. My major is Kinesiology, so that will help me with the EMT stuff. I did notice that most of the calls are medic calls. When I fly up in January to take the test I plan on stopping by a couple of Seattle City stations and talking with the guys. I also want to check out the stations just out of Seattle towards the East, because they have a volunteer program that I would like to get into if I do not get through from with this test. I definitely take what you said to heart about non-fire volunteer work. I will try to reach out to the community as it will only help. Thanks again guys!
