im not tryin to start a big conflict with saying this but i see so many videos of firemen in firetrucks not stopping at all for red lights and doin at least 40 mph through them .Even just blowing the airhorn and sirens to me isnt always going to work.In my personal opinion i think they should stop double check at a red light then go .And ill say it again im not trying to create an big conlfict just seeing what other poeples view on this topic are?
I DO SEE THIS ALOT AND I SEE WHERE IT IS A ISSUE. EVENTHOUGH YOU DONT ALWASE HAVE TO STOP YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO. IF YOU BLOW A LIGHT AT 40MPH THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP IF YOU NEED TO. PEOPLE DONT STOP FOR EMERGENCY LIGHTS , WE ALL KNOW THAT. SO BE PREPAIRED
All of the SOPs I have read and written state that all vehicles will come to a full stop before proceeding through a red light or stop sign. Anyone who has even remotely pays attention to firefighter injuries/LODDs knows that this is a good idea.
Way back when I was a regular day driver I would blast through stop signs and even red lights with siren screaming and lights flashing. I still wonder why I wasn't involved in any wrecks.
This is a training issue, pure and simple. Response safety is one of the required OSHA subjects to be taught each year, and this should be the No. 1 topic discussed. And if these trucks have officers riding in the right hand seat they need to see that the training is reinforced.
