We have a Pierce mid mount. It is a good tower. We have no major problems with it.
i see from looking at your website you have a pierce with an LTI ladder. seeing that ALF is the owner of LTI i woud go with the ALF. The city of buffalo has one and the love it.
Don't know if it will help or not, but we had a 1975 Sutphen and now have a 2000 Sutphen. I really like them both. A very stable truck and very few problems. I like mid-mount better than rear mount though. Used to be on a dept with a rear mount, and not nearly as stable.
I like ferrara personally. Our department has a quint by pierce. its a great truck with the exception of the fact the doors and paint. Pierce trucks have issues with the doors and windows of the cab not opening, or refusing to close correctly. The other issue, is trying to keep paint on the compartment doors. We have had the doors replaced on a 1997 2 times already fro rust and corrosion (through the paint) and they need to be replaced again. Do your homework, and you can get a piece that will last the distance
We run a 100' ALF LTI tower the tower ladder part it's self is very good but the ALF chassis is a piece of crap. we have had nothing but trouble from the chassis, every thing from cab mounts to electrical which is our biggest problem to running boards falling off the truck, a/c doesn't work more than it does, and our ALF engine is even worse it is on it's 3 rd multiplex system, and the body is falling apart. our 1 pierce and the 2 e-ones have been great trucks
Have you thought about a E-One mid-mount they build a good solid truck.
i like the american lafrance but the ferrara is nice to
I would not recomend Ferrara. We bought an engine a couple of years ago and have had numerous problems since we took delivery. The door for the "through the tank" storage wouldn't unlatch. The dash cracked under the weight of the radio. There was something that had to be done to the driver's front rim. Driver's rear spot light constantly burns out. The salesman in our area got our order all screwed up. Luckily we got to look at the specs before they built it. Then we could never get ahold of him. It was a really bad experience. Oh yeah. We have already had to replace the diaphrams in the air horns. We are just a small rural dept. that doesn't run that often. The trucks don't get much wear and tear on them. It could have just been our engine, I don't know, but we will never go with Ferrara again. Definately not worth $325,000.
mid mount ladder or tower?
KME does make good apparatus. My hometown has two engines from them. One is an 8 man custom cab and one is a 5 man commercial cab. They love both of them.
PIERCE!!!!
" Whoa look at the PIECE!! She's beautiful-- I know-- she's a PIERCE"
Out of 7 Class A pieces we have SIX PIERCES!!
