Let’s face it, our job is really physically demanding. Forcing a door, pulling hose, dragging out a victim, are all very taxing and we need to be in top shape to perform well at an emergency. At my station, we’ve incorporated a lot of crossfit training. For myself, this type of training seems to simulate best how it feels operating at a fire scene. Crossfit is up and coming and a new workout is posted each day on the website,
www.crossfit.com. Each day there is a new workout, but the best thing is that there is not a lot of need for expensive equipment. You can pretty much get a very good workout with very little, and there’s a lot of room to improvise if you don’t have access to certain workout equipment. I was just wondering if there is other workouts that are good for our professions. Don’t get me wrong, good old weight lifting and some cardio like running or stairmaster is great, but we do crossfit together as a crew, and it helps us to bond and push each other to achieve better physical fitness. Any suggestions? Stay safe out there my brothers and sisters!! Aloha!!
