PHOENIX - One young child was killed and another inhaled smoke during a house fire in Phoenix.
The fire happened at about midnight near Interstate 17 and Greenway Road in north Phoenix.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, a mother and two children were outside the burning home.
The mother told firefighters two other children, a 4-year-old and a 10-year-old were still inside in a back bedroom.
According to Capt. Dorian Jackson of the Phoenix Fire Department, the 4-year-old, who was sleeping in the top of a bunk bed when the fire broke out, died at the hospital.
While it's not yet clear what sparked the fire, authorities said there was a smoke alarm, however it was inside a closet and wasn't working.
