3-Alarm Illinois Tavern Fire Becomes Double Homicide Investigation

SCHILLER PARK, Ill. - Police in the Chicago suburb of Schiller Park have seen what at first appeared to be an accidental tavern fire turn into a double homicide and arson investigation.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office says a woman whose body was found in the rubble of the Horseshoe Inn tavern several days after tavern owner George Markopoulos was found dead there in the wake of the fire died - like Markopoulos- of blunt head trauma.

Schiller Park authorities tell the Chicago Tribune they found the body of 61-year-old Wendy Bonder of Schiller Park on Monday while they were removing three feet of debris from the burned out tavern.

The body of the 67-year-old Markopoulos was found shortly after the fire was struck out early on Jan. 27.
