EAST POINT, Ga. - A late-night fire in East Point forced more than two dozen families out of their homes on a frigid night.

No injuries were reported in the Monday night fire, but 30 units in an apartment complex were destroyed.

Metro Atlanta Red Cross spokeswoman Sherry Nicholson tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution a total of 49 people lived in the units.

Nicholson says the Red Cross helped 16 families with food and clothes and found hotel lodging for two families. She says the rest had somewhere to stay.

Nicholson says apartment managers plan to work with the displaced families Tuesday to move them into vacant units in the complex or to other buildings.

East Point firefighters did not immediately say what caused the fire.
