3 fires under investigation in Flagstaff
(Associated Press)

Flagstaff fire crews successfully doused three small fires Tuesday night that investigators think were intentionally set.

Firefighters responded to multiple calls of fires burning in the median near the Rio de Flag crossing under Interstate 40.

Flagstaff Fire Department spokesman Mark Johnson told KNAZ-TV that witnesses said they noticed some suspicious activity and several people were seen running from the area after the fires started.

Crews spent about an hour putting out the fires as several police agencies looked for people matching the rough descriptions provided by witnesses.

Tinder dry conditions exist in northern Arizona with the Schultz wildfire burning only a few miles away.
