(AP) UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash.

Seventeen people have been displaced by a two-alarm apartment fire in University Place.

The fire department says the Monday morning fire destroyed two units and damaged eight others in the 12-unit building, the Meadow Park Garden Court.

Firefighters from Tacoma, Gig Harbor and Lakewood helped University Place firefighters battle the flames.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports one person was taken to a hospital for inhaling smoke.

The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
