21 Homeless After Fire Tears Through Long Island Row

BALDWIN, N.Y. - Authorities say a fire ripped through a row of buildings on Long Island, leaving 21 people homeless.

Fire officials say the fire originated in a pizzeria in Baldwin late Monday night. Seven firefighters suffered heat exhaustion.

The Red Cross said Tuesday that the fire spread through a row of apartment buildings and stores below. It has provided shelter for about 11 adults and eight children at a nearby motel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
